Next YOUKI Festival18. - 22. Nov. ’25

Since 1998, the International Youth Media Festival has been the place where young people, cinema, music and media come together. YOUKI supports newcomers to the film industry, provides stages for new bands from Austria, develops media education programs for schools and gets children and young people excited about cinema and film.

The YOUKI Festival strives to create as much space as possible for a wide variety of young artists. Each year, we invite one artist to design the six YOUKI trophies, working in a range of disciplines and styles. This format follows the artist-in-residence principle: the trophies are crafted during the festival week in the festival center at the Medienkulturhaus Wels – in full view of the public. Festival guests can watch the entire creation process of the winners’ trophies unfold. This year, the trophies will be designed by Koschka Keye, in line with our festival theme Frutiger Aero. In diesem Jahr wurden die Trophäen von Koschka Keye gestaltet, passend zu unserem Festival-Thema Frutiger Aero.

Unlike most film projects, which often take years to complete, the YOUKI festival film is created within a single week in Wels by a varying team of young filmmakers. The finished work premieres at the Gala Night, and visitors can follow its creation live throughout the festival week. This year, J. S. Schönbauer – who won last year’s Austrian Award with WHEN I WOKE UP TODAY, I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT DAY IT WAS. I GUESS IT’S SUMMER – created the festival film together with Martin Siedler and Leo Sametinger. You can watch it here on Youtube.

To make sure we’ll still remember exactly what happened at YOUKI 2025 even ten years from now, this year’s festival has once again featured a collaborative festival magazine. Throughout the week, Fion Mutert ran the magazine headquarters in the festival center. Visitors were welcome to contribute with articles or lend a hand in the production. Fion is a camera person, loves crafting, and has been steady presence at YOUKI for a long time. Potato Publishing the print art collective from Linz, is visiting us with their risography printer. They ensured you can hold the freshly printed YOUKIzine 2025 in your hands on the evening of the award ceremony.

Film Education & Teaching

With school in the cinema or the cinema at school. YOUKI offers an exciting range of workshops for students and apprentices, ranging from the basics of film analysis and media understanding to the foundations of film production.
